Birthday Bliss

February 9, 2009

My week of birthday celebrations was one of the best yet! I was lucky enough to get a Serger and a new digital SLR Nikon camera.

I used both of my gifts this weekend. First, I made a dress to wear out for Saturday night’s birthday festivities…

And Sunday was spent snapping photos of the city, what a beautiful day!

Mad About Plaid!

October 13, 2008

So I kept my promise to myself and I made my dress this weekend. It was such a beautiful weekend it was hard to stay inside for an afternoon, but I knew I needed to sew!! I have been having sewing withdrawal. So here is my plaid mix fall dress! My Sunday was spent at the Food Network Food and Wine tasting event. I ate SO MUCH FOOD and drank every crazy drink you can imagine. It was out on a pier ( I never did figure out what number) and the weather was perfect! I had the greatest little weekend and I hope everyone else did as well!

FALLING OUT

October 10, 2008

I know I haven’t posted any new things that I have made lately, but that is only because I haven’t had time! Work has kept me super busy and I have had visitors in L’Hotel de Apt 15 for a few weekends. I have been sketching and brainstorming in my barely there spare time and I wanted to share with you some of the beautiful fabrics I have picked up!

Large Plaid Wool to make a shorts jumper!

This scan doesn’t do the color justice, it is a florescent red/pink color in silk chiffon! I think it will be super refreshing in a dress for Fall!

This silk chiffon print is so beautiful because it is a lilac color but from far away the colors blend together to make it look like a dusty grey.

I made a pattern for a fall print mix day dress (using this cotton tartan and cotton plaid) that I cut out on Tuesday.

I will sew it this weekend no matter what!!

I hope everyone enjoys this beautiful weekend!!

Rubie Green

August 28, 2008

Last night I attended an official launch party for Rubie Green, an organic textile company that my good friend Michelle Adams started less than a year ago. She designs beautiful upholstery prints which are printed on 100% certified organic cotton right here in the U.S. They print with water-based, non-toxic inks that minimize water consumption. She only prints to order so there is minimal waste. Her prints are not only eco-friendly but they are colorful and fabulous!! The prints could work in any space from a park avenue apartment to a trendy showroom. Here are some of my favorite prints and photos from the party.

In honor of Rubie Green I designed this dress made of 100% organic cotton jersey and wore it to the party!

Bow-tiful

July 10, 2008

Going along with my obsession with bows, I just finished making a dress to wear to my friend’s wedding this weekend. It is made out of an Ikat, Silk Dupioni fabric. Since the last dress I made was very free and flowing I thought it would be nice to change it up and focus on structure. Because Silk Dupioni is so flimsy I ended up facing the entire dress to achieve the structure that I wanted and to reduce wrinkling while wearing it. Also, I bought these new Betsey Johnson Shoes to mimic the bow in the back of the dress. I will be accessorising with vintage jewels and clutch. Very excited to wear the whole ensemble!!

Skirtin’ Around

June 19, 2008

For summer there is nothing easier to wear than a skirt and tank. In the spirit of summer I whipped up a dressy but easy to wear skirt made of an ivory Jacquard and a simple black elastic waistband. The asymmetrical drape gives it a little extra style and it can be adorned with any vintage broach (or large earring from your costume jewelry collection). It will be great to wear this summer with a simple tank and sky high sandals.

Fiesta!

June 16, 2008

I had a fiesta at my apartment this weekend! I used my Liberty printed cotton to make a dress for the party! Here are some images from the party and of the dress… It was a hot hot night! Happy Monday!

Head Dressing

June 9, 2008

Headbands have been circulating for many months now…all different widths, materials and colors. I took materials found in my sewing box to make a few flapper style headbands. Between grosgrain ribbon, beads and vintage buttons I created 2 unique headbands that can be worn day or night!

While reading the Trend insert from W magazine in the fall I came across this great layering skirt by Tia Cibani for Ports 1961. It is made from the most basic of fabrics, muslin and embellished with the luxurious fabric, silk chiffon. Loving the idea of these two fabrics joining into one garment I decided to create my own. I constructed a simple straight skirt out of muslin and attached delicate flowers made of crinkle silk chiffon. I attached the flowers with assorted crystal beads and sequins to add a little sparkle to the hem of the skirt. This skirt can be worn on its own or layered under a mini skirt or dress to lengthen your hemline or just to add a little texture to your ensemble.

Print InterMix

May 29, 2008

With the weather becoming progressivly warmer, my urge to create a beautiful spring wardrobe has heated up. Here is my most recent design, a layered silk chiffon ruffle dress. I will be wearing it this weekend to my cousin’s wedding. I used two printed chiffons to create a distinctive look. The under layer of chiffon is much more playful while the top layer is sophisticated. It creates the perfect fanciful feeling that I was going for. I will be wearing this uber-fem dress with a suede bootie sandle to balance out all of the frills.
