Jewel School

My friend Serena and I are taking jewelry making class and I couldn’t be more excited to learn a new trade! Of course, I make some jewelry here and there, but without torches, saws or files involved…only rope and beads! I collected a few images that inspired me to take metalsmithing. From the twisted brass rings of Kelly Wearstler to the beautifully set stones of Suzannah Wainhouse.

Balenciaga ala Patti Smith

I’ve always loved Patti Smith’s style, androgynous edge with feminine flare. Patti Smith’s book Just Kids had images of her in her loft space with minimal furniture and ample area for creativity, which I found very inspiring. Nicolas Ghesquière had the same idea for the Balenciaga Spring 2012 ad campaign which I can’t get enough of!

Inspired by…

Marchesa Luisa Casati: A European socialite of the early 1900′s who’s theatrical living and over-the-top wardrobe makes her a relevant icon of today. From turbans to fur-trimmed robes (which she wore with nothing underneath) she had style, presence and a great impact on fashion. Seen walking exotic animals down the streets and having nude male servants covered in gold leaf, she lived in a world of fantasy. A fantasy that inspired artists and designers to create…

Warm Up with Sass & Bide’s Spring Lookbook

On this frigid Monday morning, it is nice to see a Spring lookbook full of warmth and eye-catching ensembles. Sass and Bide created a whimsical playground in the forest to showcase their Spring 2012 collection, there is no other place I would rather be right now.

Monotone Rouge

The Pre-Fall shows are giving us tons of mono-tone looks, but the most refreshing of them all is the lipstick colors that range from wine to electric! Whether its casual, professional or fit for a night out, it is easier to wear than it sounds. Pairing red toned separates together or accessorizing with colors of the same, you can’t go wrong in head to toe rouge.

Moody Chanel

I wish today’s grey and gloomy day looked as romantic and elegant as this cover shoot for Pulp Magazine, so quintessentially Chanel.

Live How You Dress

There are two things that define our style more than anything else… 1- the way we dress and 2- the way we decorate our homes. The Pre-Fall collections continue to roll on and I would like to think if these looks hung in my closet, that the style would spill out into my home decor.

Interiors Imitate Fashion

As Pre-Fall 12 shows continue to grace us with their presence, I have noticed a sense of easy refinement. Beautiful silhouettes, simple color palettes and no-fuss ensembles. These elements not only make up for great Pre-Fall collections, but they also translate seamlessly to decorating your home…

Celine and Chloë use a soft grey to weigh down their looks, just the same as the grey sofa in this room.

Yigal Azrouel’s colorblock dress is perfectly proportioned, much like these rooms which are quintessentially symmetrical.

Designing Your Home Together

Moving in New York is always such a pain, but the move I am about to make will be quite an adventure! My boyfriend and I are moving in together, into our own apartment. We began our search yesterday in the great little area of Brooklyn called Prospect Heights. The neighborhood is fantastic and the apartment we saw (and are waiting to hear back from) has a ton of character, great sunlight and 3 whole closets! My 1 bedroom on the Lower East Side could fit in the living room of this apartment! Located only a few blocks from Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Museum, we are super excited and keeping fingers and toes crossed that we get it!

The whole idea of sharing my living space with a person of the opposite sex, is initially, how are our styles going to mesh? My vintage velvet sofa sitting with his industrial metal trunk we found in the garbage… my oversized antique mirror hanging next to his neon orange skateboard art? I am a bit perplexed! The apartment has beautiful wainscoting in the living room and bedrooms, a chic nod to Parisian style. I don’t want to get ahead of myself, as we won’t know if we got the apartment until later this week, but I can’t help but wonder what our things will look like in this lovely space… and more importantly, how will our styles fit together?

So I began my research… which can translate to any apartment we end up living in…  Here are some rooms that balance the scales just right between men’s and women’s styles…

If you have any further suggestions, send them my way!
